Question:
A Cashier Gave Out My Credit Card Number -- Who Do I Report Her To?
2009-03-25 19:55:15 UTC
Two women approached me in a parking lot and gloated that a cashier had given them my credit card number. When I confronted the cashier she didn't deny it, knew who the women were without me telling her, and laughed and made smart alecky remarks. Another cashier came over and joined in. Four customer service reps, an "assets protection" officer and the assistant manager(the manager had "just left for the day") said there was nothing they could do about it. Of course I went right to the bank and cancelled the card. Am I paranoid in thinking that these people are involved in credit card/ID theft? Who do I report them to?

Report it to the owner of the business. If it's a chain report it to the office manager. Also report it to the police. I wonder if the "assets protection" office was really an officer. And I wonder if the manager had really left for the day. I would certainly wonder if they are all involved in the theft of card #'s.

Good thing you canceled the card!

First you should send an email complaint or a hand written complaint to the company. If it is a big store then they probably have a website. If it is a small privately owned place write a letter to the owners. Or call the store manager tomorrow and complain. Tell them you are disappointed by the service and how their assistant manager didnt take it seriously. Tell them that you do not plan on ever shopping there again and will be sure to tell all your friends and family how careless their cashiers are with private information.

Call the store and ask for the manager, and if the manager isn't in, ask when they will be so you can call again. If the manager does nothing to help with this, go to the next person in line (especially if it's a big chain). Should that not yield any results, contact the police. Good job cancelling the card before anything could happen, I certainly hope those people get in trouble.

That is awfully brazen of them and it makes me wonder if they were pulling your leg. Still, not something I'd mess around with. I find it strange that no one higher up would do anything, whether it's a joke or not that is not something you mess around with in your place of business. I would most definitely go to the local police so that they have it on file at the very least.

If it is in a mall, also go to the mall office and let them know what is going on. If it is a chain, get the name and number of a district or regional manager or their corporate offices.

Police first.

You should contact a manager/ general manager/ someone high up as soon as possible. They need to fire those employees immediately!

If you have more proof than just the word of a stranger (eg....a written not from the person who confronted you) you should call the police and ask them what can be done.

call the police and file a report. call the manager or corporate office of this company and tell them what happened. also, while it is fresh on your mind, write down any and every detail you can think of about the incident (names, date, time, etc,,) also, maybe the store has the incident on surveillance video.

identity theft is real and can damage you for many years to come.

You should have called the police right then and there and you still can and file a report, you then need to contact the stores main office and report it and then you need to contact the attorney general's office and file a report. You can actually get the forms for the attorney general's office off of the in.gov website.

Call and cancel the card NOW as in right away. Chances are this was not a dumb mistake. By reporting the loss quickly, you minimize your financial responsibility!!! Get a new card...

Wow- that is scary. I would call the non-emergency police line right away. They should be able to direct you to who you need to speak with and file a police report.

first =report to the manager of the store

# if the manager doesn't help

second =report to the police

The POLICE! If noone in that store was willing to help you, then there's something seriously fishy going on there. Contact the police ASAP and explain to them what happened..

The police of course. Who were the women? Did you know them? The clerk should be arrested. This sounds awfully strange.

the police. it could be (probably is) a federal offence. you are right for being pariniod, and you handeled the situation very well

P.S. you should tell your friends not to go to that store. the store is no longer worth your buisiness.

Your local law enforcement agency. They should be able to do something about the situation, and if nothing else, try to prevent them from continuing this scam.
