West Yorkshire Police scam?

Question

On my laptop, I was on facebook, then I saw this flag behind the screen.
I minimised, and there was thus HUGE sign saying 'Your computor has been locked for violating the law of great Britain'
and itvqas from West Yorksire Police.
Apparently, I had viewed child abuse and p0rnography.

Which I hadn't, I'm 14 and Id never even known there was any site where you could do that!

It blocked the whole screen, and demanded for me to pay a fine of 100 pounds to get it unlocked.

I have 48 hours to pay the fine, or my ip adress will be tracked and something will happen.

I told my dad, and he says it's a virus, but he doesn't know how to delete it.

And I dint know what to do.
What is this virus thing, do the REAL west yorksire police know about this going on?
Will I really get tracked?

I'm so confused..

This has nothing to do w\ any law enforcement agency.



Your machine has been infected w\ malware, scumware or call it whatever you like; it's not classified as a virus because it doesn't replicate & spread.



What you need to do is boot into safe mode & restore your system to a point in time prior to the infection; if that doesn't work follow the directions here:

Howdy. It could possibly look that you have inherited a spyware and adware/Maleware worm. This will occur when downloaded records that have been coded with hex codes and such that command your pc to present out details so internet sites can do stuff and send you extra junk infecting your computer. Heres what i would do. Download Maleware Bytes Antimaleware if that you can from one more laptop (thats if you happen to cant do it on that one) maybe a library laptop will guide you in this download as a result of ur lappy being blocked. Install this application and as soon as mounted, run it and then do a full scan. Once executed it must have detected a heap of adware/maleware bugs and will both have cleaned auto or have quarantine them. To do away with them from quarantine go to the Quarantine tab within the program and click Delete fascinated about complete easy. In case you can not set up the application on lappy for any reason, then run the pc in trustworthy mode. Should you do not know find out how to run your laptop lappy into riskless mode, then Google how one can to your lappy. Goodluck! :)

This is a common and well known scam from cyber criminals.

It is total nonsense, ignore it.

For the poor people who fall for this scam not only do they lose money but the cyber crooks but kinds of spyware on your computer.

So, to sum up ignore it. then run your anti virus program for a full scan to make sure ur computer is clean. If your computer is locked see other answers to boot into safe mode. May I recomend a great program for free, it is highly respected to protect ur computer. ZoneAlarm free antivirus and firewall.

Viewing stuff like that is a felony. If it were the real police then they would have apprehended and detained you. Its just a viral scam.

I don't think you can just 'pay a fine' fro something like that,they are more likely to have sent a S.W.A.T team to your house,don't worry it's an obvious scam.
