what other punishments can criminals receive other than life in prison and the death penalty?

I already have they can recieve life in prison with parole and the death penalty. I also need reasons why they wouldn't be put on death row.. {Think as the mind of a criminal} and the crime wasn't severe enough to recieve capital punishment,, I'm sorry if this is confusing..

Well, there is life, but that means 2 things, it can be with no possibility of parole, or with eligibility for parole in X number of years.



I believe only first degree murder can get the death penalty. It has to be on purpose, and pre-meditated. A plea bargain would be a possible reason why someone could committ a heinous crime and not get the death penalty. They could plead to life w/no parole in exchange to no death penalty. This would be in a state that even had the death penalty.
