Once you are off probation you can attend school. If your grades are good enough the department will pay.

I finished my bachelors and got my masters while working (there are many schools that work the school schedule around cops weird schedules) and did not have to pay a dime for any of it.

As I remember for Houston PD and surrounding areas you can also get help for books etc. from the local 100 club.

Your schedule will dictate when you can go to school. Always inform the shift officer of what you are looking for in a shift while at school and maybe they can put you on swings while you go to school during the day. It's worth asking first and see how long you will be on that shift. My philly friend is a officer and he is on shift work and bounces around every 2 weeks, YIKES!!!!

In our dept. officers are allowed to go to school, however, most go around their schedule. Night officers go in the day time and day officers go at night.

If you're a police officer, ask your supervisor. The individual policies probably vary from department to department.
