What sort of things do you do in a police job, and what are the requirements...like how fit do u have to be? Need drivers license? etc...And what would be a typical day in the life of a state police officer, AFP officer, and SWAT police officer...??

And also how do I join the SWAT (or equivalent?) What are the requirements of this, and how dangerous is this sort of job? Is is exciting??

Lastly, how does the AFP (federal police) differ from state police and SWAT (or Aust. equivalent)...??

Btw I am in Year 11 in high-school, and thinking about this career...If anyone can help (esp. who is in the police/SWAT, or has been) that would be great! THnx for anwers

It depends entirely on which state you are in as to the requirements for a state police officer. While there are no SWAT teams in Australia, here in NSW our equivalent is the SPG (State Protection Group). Typically, you would join the NSW Police for a period of 3 years general duties policing first before applying for vacancies in this specialist field.

You can find out a lot of information by searching Police Force pages on the internet - some of the links below would be a good start. Also now Policing in NSW requires most applicants to complete a diploma in Policing Practice or equivalent qualification first through Charles Sturt University.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is also responsible for territory policing responsibilities in the A.C.T as well as national and international investigations.

In Australia it's not actually called SWAT, it's called TRG (tactical response group). The requirements to join is fairly easy, but you really need to be physically fit. You need to be able to do 100 push ups and sit ups within 5min without stopping. Your first couple of months of training will be running, swimming, biking, weight lifting etc... then you move up to raiding houses and breaching doors.

A typical day would be constant training, even if you're at your peak physicall level, until your squad gets called up for a hostage situation or any other similar scenarios, which might be 3-5 times a month.

EDIT: If you're willing to apply for it, go to the Australian governament site and type in TRG.

Just to let you know these guys do some heavy background checks, meaning if you've been caught doing drugs or been in crimial activity, they will decline your application in a spilt second.
