Depends on both the jurisdiction and the warden. Certainly not all jails do this, but there are some that do.

Ok, some of it depends on where you will be serving your sentence. However: Strip searches are NOT unconstitutional. They are very common, and one of the best tools Officers can use to control contraband. In Georgia, strip searches are done whenever an inmate: enters or leaves the facility, comes in contact with the general public (i.e. visitation), and whenever they are suspected of carrying contraband. NO warrant or "reasonable suspicion" is needed, Ever, in a prison. The US Supreme Court has ruled that the only time any search of an inmate is unconstitutional is when it is done for the purpose of harassment. Strip searches are done by two Officers of the same gender as the inmate, and in a place where there is privacy. Sometimes this means each inmate has their own "stall", like a shower/restroom stall but with no door, and the Officers are standing out in the room where they can see everyone. The inmates cannot see each other, however. In a strip search, the inmate will take everything off, and the clothing, etc will be searched by an Officer. The inmate will be asked to show all body cavities for evidence of contraband. Sometimes female inmates are asked to squat with their knees spread wide, and cough to dislodge any contraband hidden in a body cavity. However: Officers DO NOT search body cavities, they only look. If they see any evidence of contraband, a medical personnel must do the cavity check, with approval from the Warden. Officers are trained to be professional during strip searches. I'm sorry to hear you're having to do time, but if you simply do what they say, and follow the rules, you will be out soon. Don't panic over the rumors. If you run into any trouble, let your Counselor or an Officer know.

Every person incarcerated in the jail must submit to a strip search during the booking process.

Yes, you are completely naked during the search (thus the term STRIP search). The search includes positioning for examination of cavities. If something is found, or strong suspicion of contraband, a cavity search may be ordered. This is NOT a consent search!!

They will strip search you when you are being booked (processed) into the jail. And yes you are completely naked when they do the strip search. I have been in jail six times and this is how the strip search was done each time:

They have you start off by removing all of your clothes and placing them in a bag. Then you are told to stand up naked and stretch your arms and legs out. They then ask you to move around your hair, stick out and move around your tongue, bend back your ears, tilt your head back, wiggle your fingers and toes, lift up your arms and legs, bend over and spread your buttocks, raise and move your breasts around, and squat down and cough three times.

It is very degrading to go through but you have to remember that this is not all that you will be going through. I completely understand why you are confused and scared. It's natural to feel like that when you have never been in jail before. Feel free to email if you want to know more so that you completely know what to expect when you go in, my email is: amlorello@gmail.com

While not all departments employ strip searches as a means of halting contraband from entering their facilities, mine most certainly does and to the most rigid degrees physically and legally possible at that. While keeping contraband from entering our facility is the main priority, I routinely remind all corrections officers under my watch to make said searches as degrading as our state and local laws allow, point being dehumanization of our inmates, to break them and any spirit or fight they may have to give us. I personally take great joy in watching a spoiled young excuse for a lady such as yourself be completely broken of her humanity and the prima dona treatment, the spoiled lifestyle that led you to think you were above the laws which you broke to enter my facility. The longer you stay, the lesser you feel, the more myself and my staff enjoy our job.

You have to strip after every contact visit .The first thing you do when you get there is remove all piercings and jewelry. They do the strip search and They lift your hair and check the bottom of your feet and they have you lift your boobs. Some times you have to squat and cough while naked other times you will have to bend and spread. then you give them your clothes and you get a "uniform". Then you go to your room, cell or where ever you are going to be sleeping. I have relatives in the corrections department.

You should have thought about that while you were committing whatever crimes landed you in jail. Yes, they're going to strip search you. They might even beat you a few times with a baton until you shape up. You've pretty much forfeited all your rights now that you're going to jail.

you better count on it...they make you strip naked, tell you to bend over spread your butt cheeks and cough and a few other embarrassing things...this typically only happens once at processing, but you are subject to more depending on the circumstances.
