cost of death penalty in texas?

I hear that the cost of death penalty in Texas is about $2 million dollars because of all the appeals and all. Is this true? About how much is it, on average? Would it be cheaper to incarcerate them? What is the cost for life in prison?

In 1992, the Dallas Morning News concluded that a death penalty case costs an average of $2.3 million, about three times the cost of imprisoning someone in a single cell at the highest security level for 40 years.

The death penalty does cost much more. The answer above mine is probably the most up to date. The state of Texas has yet to do its own study on the death penalty.

It would be at least 3 times cheaper to incarcerate them, apparently, even allowing for the fact that Texas has the highest execution rate in the US.



Some past governor reformed the criminal justice system there, and executions rocketed.... wonder what became of him???...
