Is Homeland Security allowed to pull vehicles over for traffic violations?

The reason I ask is because DHS has pulled several vehicles over near my house. I didn't realize enforcing traffic laws was part of their mission.

It will depend on what HS was doing it, most medium and large police departments have Homeland Security officers appointed in it. All of the state police units I know, including some of the larger college police units all have homeland secuity officers also.

If the officer has been sworn in as a state, county or city police yes they may.

Many times the vechiles have specific names and the officers assigned to varouis units, but this will not mean they don't have other powers of arrest.

in general those that work at the Federal level would not be doing traffic stops

A number of states are trying to pass laws so immigration violations can be checked if there is a legitimate pull over for a traffic violation or anything else. Some may have already passed these laws. I am not sure who is supposed to enforce this.

If something is illegal, it should be enforced. I have no problem with that.

No! Homeland Security has no authority to enforce traffic laws!

I'd really like to know how you know that this was Homeland Security.

I'd like to know more about this. How do you know it was DHS? And do you have pics you can post on the net? Tho I wouldn't go trying to take pics if it really is DHS 'cause they'll disappear you and no one will even know where you went.
