I witnessed the handing over of a pouch of tobacco and papers etc from a youth I would say was around 16-17 years old to a police officer at the local mall. I had never heard of this before and was wondering if this was something new? I knew that they can take alcahol from youths but didnt know about tobacco.

the lowest legal age for tobacco is 16 in alaska. the cop can take it away. he probobly gave a choice of fine or forfeiture. the damned 'forbidden fruit' scenario. we're always going to seek what we cant have. in other parts of the world ive been to im shocked at how young people get into things. but then, its not (drugs, drink, tobacco, ect) popular because its not restricted. my truck for instance, the envy of all who are without one. i couldnt wait to get old enough to drive legally. now, i can drive anywhere but choose not to because its no big deal & am sick of driving every damn day.

You cannot legally use tobacco until you are 18 years of age, so yes this is normal and happens all of the time.

Well the police must have susbected there was something other than tobacco in the bag. Then again, the policeman could have been the boy's father...

It depends on what province or state you are in...some do have bylaws in force with tobacco and minors.

yes because it is illegal for someone under age to have it in his/her possession... but i dont think a securit guard at the mall is able to take anything into his posesion from anyone i think they are just they to make sure no one steals anything.
