How can I check if a person has been reported missing to the police?

Some guy turned up looking for a girl I met one night 6 months ago. He says no one has seen her since that night we hung out, which is scary because that would make me the last person to have seen her.
However it strikes me as odd that the police wouldn't have come and asked us about her if she was actually missing, and maybe this guy is just some nutty ex.

Is there somewhere I can find out if she's really been reported missing, or should I regret not walking her home for the rest of my life?

I kind of go along with your feeling he may be an "ex" and is trying to find her. But, to be on the safe side, just call your local Police Department. Ask for the Missing Person's officer and relate your story to that officer.

Call your local police department and give them the name of the girl. They will check their case files to see if she has been reported as a runaway or missing person. If she has, then get the officer's name and contact information. Call the officer and explain to him the information that you recieved.
