Ok here goes my husband was adopted 42 years ago we found his birth mom a year ago haven't met her yet but she has given us the name of the birth dad and doesn't have alot of info otherwise. The man I am looking for was a former police officer I think Pensylvania. She gave me the name of the uncle who is a former country singing star. I found this man of all places living in a Howard Johnson suites in CA. I spoke to him and he told me he had no idea of who I was talking about or anything like that. The problem is the name of the birth dad is so common that it makes it even more difficult. I figured tracking down the birth uncle would make things easier but didn't get anywhere.I have been helping my husband search for this man for over 13 years. I pray he is still alive.Don't have the money to do the PI again, to find his mom it cost us $3500 and 12 1/2 years to find. We have used several adoption groups with no leads. He is not listed on the birth certificate so that was no help.

You can try contacting the Department of Public Safety for the state of PA. See if they have any records on the officer. Being an officer would have put alot of his info out there for the public to view. You can also try searching his name through case law search engines, like findlaw or similar.

If your an officer for any length of time some of your cases are bound to be appealed at the very least on a state level. Then start checking with police department historians in the area of where you think the potential father may be from.

Do you have his original social security number from birth? Really need to talk with the birth mother and why was the individual given up for adoption, and what hospital was it and then trip on down to the Dept. of Vital Statistics to the state where it all began. Search adoption agencies from that state or run his social in that state of birth. does this help for info. If you can narrow down the town, it should be in public records from graduating from the academy.

If you can find someone who works for a police service in Pensylania ask them to email their co-workers with the name. You can also ask them to forward the email to officers of other Pensylvania police agencies. Maybe if the email gets some good distribution you may get someone who remembers this person. Here in Ontario, police officers are all members of the same retirement investing group (called OMERS). Does Pensylvania have this? If they do they might be persuaded to tell you if they have a retired officer by that name on pension. They may refuse to give the information, but just maybe if you tell them your story they may be able to bend the rules for you.

That's all I can think of, good luck to you.

Buy "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Private Investigating." It will teach you how to track anyone down. For probably $10.

The best bet I think is to contact the Police where he was based - there will always be someone that knows someone. Whilst they probably won't give you his details, they may contact him and pass yours on. The only problem with this is if he doesn't want to be found.
