I recently got my first speeding ticket, I have court coming up and I got a letter from my old insurance lawyer telling me something about class B misdemeanor, that he can be my lawyer, that hes helped many people with the speeding tickets. Now this is my first speeding ticket, I was on I290 going 92 on a 55mph. The ticket says "SPEEDING OVER STATUTORY LIMIT 31-39". Like I said before, this is my first speeding ticket and I was late to a job. What is the ticket going to look like, am I going to be looking at some jail time? because that's what it says on the lawyer letter, $1,500 fine and up to 2 years. What do you recommend me doing?

While jail is something that can happen since the lawyer is partially correct in that that speed over is a misdemeanor it will not happen.

1st off no misdemeanor anywhere in the US gets 2 years. Only up to one year Class B up to 180 days. So the guy is simply lying to scare you. The fine can be as high as $1,500.

Now you say Chicago but almost no part of I290 is in Chicago. If you are going to Chicago traffic court at the Daley center you have a decent chance, with an attorney, to get the speed knocked down. You can actually find a competent traffic lawyer in the hallways there.

If you are in Dupage or other parts you may be screwed and really need a lawyer.

Wherever you go get a lawyer. Get one that is very experienced in traffic defense, not some guy who worked insurance or closes on houses

Forget your excuse, makes everyone mad that you will risk the lives of others because you cannot wake up early enough.or selfish enough to think that your problems counts more than others lives.

I don't know about jail time, but it usually is quite a huge fine and an automatic license revocation for going more than 30 mph over the posted limit. If it's your first speeding ticket and you don't have a suspended license, I doubt jail time would be involved. And if you were being charged with a misdemeanor it would have to say so on the ticket. It sort of sounds like the lawyer is trying to scare you into buying his services.

first thing is relax

the fine can be as much as the lawyer, why pay both?!

next is seek out some info on procedures from free legal aid in your county

probably at the daley center and see what they have to say.

take a half day off of work and sit in on traffic court ahead of time, just to see how it all goes down

if it still freaks you out, then get the lawyer, but I reco saving your money for the fine

DON'T give the judge excuses. he's heard them all. Admit you were speeding for a job interview only if he asks why, ....forgive me judge, I was blah blah blah, but only if he asks.

he already has your driving record in front of him

I never got a 30+ over, so I don't know what to expect other than a huge fine and probably loss of privileges

best wishes

It is unusual to go to jail for speeding. That is the "Maximum" sentence.

I am guessing that nobody was injured, you were not drunk, and you say it is your first speeding ticket. Do you have other tickets for moving violations? Those can make a difference in how they treat this one. Tickets for parking, loud muffler, or not having current registrations do not involve jail time. Driving without a license doesn't usually, but it can.

I think, unless you failed to mention something important, your greatest concern may be that your driver's license could be taken away.

you have a ought to look fee tag. you do no longer go after 2 months they get a warrant to your arrest. Your license would be suspended with the Secretary of State's place of work. A parent ought to attend court docket with you. So tell your mum and dad now or they're going to locate out once you're arrested on the failure to look warrant. like the cop pronounced, visit court docket with a parent, plead responsible and admit you made a mistake and you likely get supervision. possibly no effective and no concern until you get yet another fee tag until now supervision is over. do no longer go your in deep doo doo Your motive force's license replaced into you bond. The tickets (yellow slip) is your temp license and receipt for you actual license. ascertain to hold your yellow to court docket with you. Take the blue line and get off on the Daley midsection. site visitors court docket is in the basement of the Daley midsection. one greater factor. don't have faith others young ones approximately cops no longer exhibiting up and you getting off. For one factor if a Chicago cop does no longer visit site visitors court docket one his scheduled day he gets suspended devoid of pay for an afternoon. If eh won't be able to happen because of the fact he has a much better court docket to circulate to they purely proceed the case until his next scheduled court docket date, commonly 28 days away.

yes, ask the judge to lower the fine. preferrably with the help of a lawyer.

then ask for traffic school, too so your insurance doesn't go up.

did my traffic school online with gototrafficschool.com and used a discount code X2K-7CF-4F5 to save.

and searched traffic school answers 2012 and found a site with the final questions and answers reviewer.

best of luck.

92 in a 55 is criminal not just speeding that's dangerous driving , so it seems like there is little a lawyer could do
