Question:
Red Light Cameras Ticket Question?

I entered an intersection while the traffic light was green to make a left hand turn. The traffic light then turned yellow once I actually entered. Due to traffic I could not exit the intersection before the light turned red.

Is a traffic ticket on its way to my house?

This occurred at a photo enforced intersection in southern California.

Please cite a source of reference.

Thanks!

In California, if you enter the intersection before the light turns red, then you have the right to exit.

However you do ot have the right to block an intersection.

If it was clear that when you entered the intersection there was traffic that would block you from going all the way through the intersection and you blocked the intersection by being caught in the middle of the intersection you can get a ticket for blocking an intersection.

The photo cameras are adjusted to 'allow' for this clearance time, so, unless you saw a "flash" then no ticket was made in reference to this driving. However, if you had been speeding to clear the intersection then the camera would have flashed & a ticket would be issued.

No, it sounds like you were doing just fine as a driver that day:)

All red light and speed radar cameras in IL have a flash, day or night.

Everyone I have spoken to saw the flash when their picture was taken. Even when driving down the highway at 75 m.p.h.. The flash was visible in the rear view mirror, and unmistakeable in construction zones.

The picture is good enough to see you and make a postive i.d. it was you. Plus a picture of your front license plate.

Never once has a person gotten out of the ticket in court. It is you vs. the camera. The camera always won when I was in Traffic Court.

you should be OK, it's a judgement call, if I remember correctly, the CA law says you can enter an intersection on yellow and even if it turns red, you are OK as long as you are already in it. I'll look for a link for you. Good luck.

if you dont have a front license plate then you have nothing to worry about. i wouldnt think you would get a ticket but if you do you should fight it.
