i got a careless driving ticket yesterday and it says i have to appear to court on 3-1-10. It was written for last year. Does the ticket still count and do i have to go to court?

You should be more worried about the conduct that got you the summons than getting off on some trivial technicality. If you truly believe that you are not guilty then be a man and go tell your story to the judge instead of trying to weasel out of it. If you know that you're guilty then just pay it.

Since you know the year 2010 already passed, you know it is an error and is set for 2011. It's not grounds for dismissal. You can show up on 3-1-11 or contact the court prior to that date to reschedule. If you do neither, you'll wind up with a warrant.

No, they can re-write the ticket on the spot in court. That's what happened to me when a cop wrote the wrong driver liscence number on my speeding ticket. I tried the improper instrument plea, but it didn't work and just pissed them off.
Just my 2-cents. Pay the ticket or consult a local lawyer.

The MOST you could accomplish as a result of an error in the court date is have your court date rescheduled. Your court date is not relevant to the charge, so it can't be grounds to dismiss the charge.

Yeah. Ignore it. When they issue an arrest warrant and come for you tell them I said you didn't have to appear. And if they actually overrule me and say you have to pay a fine all you have to do is date the check 2012 and they won't be able to cash it. You're in the clear either way. Jerk.
