Couple questions about the polygraph?

I know to never lie on one...But I do have a couple questions so I can ease my mind a bit...

I am applying for the Sheriff's Dept in Sourthern Ca..Next step is the background packet then the polygraph to confirm the packet...I understand the process well...

I know their ask about underage sex questions things like that...I was sexually abuse by my step grandpa....my brother and I are very close in age (I am the baby) and we tried couple things when we were VERY young...I was maybe 10 him being 12 I think....What can I say about that??....I also had sexual interactions with a femal the same age when I was like 12 or 13....Is this all ok?...Will I get a change to explain that before the polygragh because I am afaid that if I say no on a sexual question then it would show up as a lie....(not I have never touched a child after that ever!)....It was just messing around you know? Kid stuff

Also....I had a friend who would steal street signs (just ones that were on the ground not like anything that could endanger a life)...I never did it myself but I was with him in the car...and would clean them up after we got home?...So is that concerned petty theif on my side?

I have never smoked pot or do any illegal drugs...I have only been drunk like twice my whole life and there was only 2 or 3 times I had ONE drink behind the wheel...Only one though....

The one thing I am worried is Hypocodine...When I was like 16 or 17 I took my moms and a bit of my brothers....It really was for pain....Only took it twice a month I think....Stopped for like a year and I did it again (same bottle) a few months ago so I could sleep...I was never addicted and never took another bottle or pills other then when I was 17....

Will I be able to explain all this BEFORE...so that way if I say no or yes to any of it...They know that I was hopnest in the first place....Not like there 100 percent right you know...

The Employee Polygraph Protection Act prevents employers from using a polygraph as pre-screening tool unless they have a specific exemption. The act exists because the polygraph is really only about 60% accurate and therefore should not be used as part of employee screening.

If they don't have an exemption declare your right to not be subjected to an UNscientific and unreliable tool.

Be aware that the "pre-interview" and "post-interview" followup are part of the polygraph examination, so don't think you can spill anything once you're no longer hooked up. Also expect some embarrassing questions. Part of the theory of the lie-detector is that stress produces a similar reaction to a lie.

Polygraph questions are generally yes or no. They won't ask for details on anything unless they think you lied to them and they still might want you for the job.

You don't know much about the polygraph. The questions are such that they demand "yes" or "no" answers. There are no long and drawn out questions because your mind will wander. The questions will be like this;

Have you been truthful when you were interviewed by Lt. Jones?

Were you truthful when you denied ever using drugs?

Your drug situation will be cleared up a long time before you take the polygraph because you will be asked to admit all prior drug use. If you lie then that will come out on the polygraph.

The sexual encounter will also be discussed (if you tell the truth) so it will not be an issue later. Basically what they do is give you a chance to tell everything that you have done that you are worried about. Most of it is nonsense.

Most of your explanations will be given in your background packet. Relax and tell the truth. The only issue you really have since most of the bad behavior was at an early age, is the fact you used a controlled substance without a prescription recently. Just be honest. If not it will be discovered in the polygraph.

Be honest. Cops and people who want to be cops have overdeveloped super egos. A cop polygrapher knows this and it is taken into account.

Your only real problem is this since it was not prescribed.

(same bottle) a few months ago so

it shows that you did some stuff recently and you went about it in the wrong way.
