Do police get involved in mail theft?

People in my apt complex had their mail taken from their mailbox.the boxes are locked.Someone broke open the lock and took mail.problem is,they dont know what kind of mail was taken?Is this a police matter or Postal inspector?Can the police do anything?Can the police arrest the person who did it,if its someone in that toown,or is this ONLY for Postal Inspector to do?

The actual arrest would be made by local police. Contrary to what others have stated, postal inspectors DO NOT have arrest powers.

Besides, in the case you describe, there is ZERO evidence that mail was stolen. There IS evidence of vandalism.

Mail theft is a federal crime, and therefore the postmaster and postmaster general would be the ones to deal with it. Local police can't help.

I already answered your question. But of course the person can be arrested for it. It is, as I told you, a FEDERAL crime.
