Volunteer firefighters can operate red warning lights while responding to emergency calls for service. Only fire chiefs and assistant fire chiefs can operate sirens in their POV's.

You can view all NC laws at the North Carolina General Assembly web site. The reference for volunteer firefighters can be found in Chapter 20. You will have to search the statutes because I can't remember the exact statute number.

Get a waiver or consent of your local P.D. The only time they can be used is when you're Code3 in response to a call. Do not use them otherwise or you'll be cited.

The fire department will supply you those when you are a member. They are allowed them but can only use them when on a call.
