I was browsing and I accidentally clicked on a picture and an FBI warning popped up and it said that it was monitoring my Ip because I was accessing child pornography. Real or fake? I'm inclined to think fake because... 4chan, but the again. It's 4chan.

Fake ... I would also go to download.com and get Malwarebytes. I've heard of viruses that keep popping that message up. That will remove it, and any others it finds, for free.

*chuckles* It's fake. It's an animated GIF. The first frame is what was shown on the 4chan thumbnail. The following/last frame, which shows up 1/30th of a second later, is the fake "FBI warning". You might have seen the original image flash by real fast when you opened it. The FBI does not issue warnings like this, nor do they "forward your IP address to various law enforcement agencies". They ARE a law enforcement agency. They also do not screw up punctuation. If you don't believe me, save that GIF off and open it with GIMP or an animated GIF editor. You'll see what I mean.

I think you answered your own question: it's 4chan.

Think logically: if the FBI knew a site was child pornography, would they put little notices to discourage you from viewing it, or would they just be shutting it down?

Here's some words from the FBI on e-scams and warnings:

I doubt that you would get a warning.

It happened to me a few days ago, and I was not

looking at anything that I wouldn't show my mother....

I think it is a scam to scare folks who have a history of that nature

into paying a bogus fine....

Shut your browser off: disconnect from the internet, wait 15 seconds and go back to whatever....

If you are viewing naughty "stuff", no one cares.... when you start to upload, or whatever

then you may come to someone's attention, but I really doubt it!

of course, if you don't view porn, and don't go looking for it.......

Usually warnings like these are fake. Normally theres things also were they try to bribe you to put in credit card info to make them stop monitoring you etc which then they use to take all your money. Just ignore it and do NOT put in any type of information at all

More than likely it is fake... The FBI usually does the kicking down the door thing moreso than sending you messages on the internet

I think every one gets one of those on line. You can be on a Christian site and they will pop up. Just ignore them
