Being undercover requires experience you can only get on the job. You must first start in patrol before you are eligible for any special duty assignments, including undercover duties.

After that, the process is determined by department policy, so it will vary for every agency. These positions are generally highly sought after, so it could take a while.

In order to be an undercover officer, you have to become a police officer first. This means going to the police academy, getting hired on to a department as a patrol officer and getting placed into a position within your department as a undercover officer if your department has an undercover unit. There is not a school or class to become an undercover officer, it is just the same as a police officer. You may have to take classes AFTER you get hired on surveillance techniques, narcotics & vice etc. Most departments require 2 years in patrol before you can go to any specialty units.

First you have to become a cop. When you are determined to be ready you will get undercover assignments.

picture and full name please....I have to make sure not to bump into you.

Yeah despite the fact that undercover police are some unconstitutional jerks (entrapment and the such), becoming one shouldn't be that hard, first gain confidence with people who have less than legal habits then tell the 5-0 you're willing to narc, that's about it. They are not the same as regular police they present themselves in a certain way to get someone else to do something criminal in front of them so they can report it, most might never wear a uniform. The ones who are normal officers, are usually veteran police officers in the department pertaining to the operation.

I really don't like anyone willing to act like one thing and be another, it's disingenuous.

Dear... You seem to be a bit confused.

To go "undercover", you join as a regular police. If you do good and have aptitude for it, they recommend you for plainclothes, then if you do really well, and they need people like that, then they pick people to go undercover.

So yes, you do have to go to police academy first, and all that.

No, you do no longer "truly like the pastime" what you like is the television prepare. they are no longer in accordance with certainty, in actuality in many situations approximately as some distance from certainty as that's achieveable to get. Police artwork is plenty extra mundane - is a job, an in many circumstances difficult and unrewarding pastime - that's no longer an entire life of exhilaration. it could truly supply a great deal for a lot of human beings, yet in basic terms people who rather understand what Policing is approximately.
