I can recount what a family member did to become a special agent.

First, he was an is an athletic, fit person. Second, he has no criminal record. Third, he went to college and received a degree in actuarial science (they take a lot of accounting degrees I guess as well... organized crime is generally taken down via tax evasion charges etc.) Finally he passed an extremely rigorous background check and series of polygraph examinations which included questions about past drug use and other very personal/ embarrassing questions.

And that was just to be admitted to training.

FBI Special Agents are vastly more educated and talented than your typical police officer. My advice would be to keep your nose very very clean, stay in top physical shape, and study hard and go to college... and learn as much as possible about forensic accoounting.

One of the main requirements is minimum 4 year college degree with excellent grades.

You must also be in stellar physical condition. Stellar mental condition and emotionally sound. Absolutely NO arrests and NO problems even in high school.

The testing procedure is tough. You will go through an entire battery of psychological tests. You will take a lengthy written test as well as an oral test. There is also a pretty darn tough physical agility test. Then a complete medical examination. Then the waiting while they do the background. If you make it, you are off to Quantico for a VERY rigorous academy. If you make the "yellow brick road", you deserve to walk proud.

The FBI conducts the most rigorous background check you will ever have. They will bloody well know when you last did your laundry and what you had for breakfast by the time they are done investigating you.

Don't try to hide even the smallest transgression, however silly or minor it may seem. If they ask, you answer truthfully.

The pay varies depending on location of assignments. Average starting pay is around $48,000. Just because you live in Phoenix it does not mean you will get assigned there and most likely you won't. Some agents are transferred every couple of years for the first 10 years or so. It will depend on what your expertise is and where you are needed the most. You are at THEIR beck and call.

Good luck to you if decide to go through with it....:)

Call the local office of the FBI, they are in the phone book, and ask them what their qualifications are a the time. They have agents assigned who answer this question on a regular basis. Don't be shy, call.

Improved spelling and grammar will be helpful. After you can properly spell the name of your home city, try again.
